The Pavilion

Authentic Thai Cuisine At Datai Beach
The Pavilion is located in the Datai Langkawi, a sprawling five-star luxury hotel tucked away within a lush rainforest in Datai Bay, Langkawi.

At The Pavilion, diners are also treated to classical Thai music in the background, warm lighting, white orchids and the flickering light of candles on each table. The Pavilion at the Datai Langkawi offers an extensive array of Thai delights, with a team of friendly staff who are more than happy to recommend some of the restaurant’s signature dishes.

For drinks, the restaurant has an extensive alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage menu, and we chose to indulge in some of their fine rose wine, with its subtle flavour making it a refreshing accompaniment to The Pavilion’s deliciously spicy Thai fare.

The Pavilion start with poh piah goong (RM69), an appetiser that consists of prawn lemongrass spring rolls served with Thai chilli sauce. Perfectly savoury with a fragrant hint of lemongrass, the prawns are both tender and fresh while the spring rolls are crunchy without being too oily. Next, we are served with two quintessential Thai delicacies, namely tom kha gai (RM32) and tom yam goong (RM34).

The former is a coconut milk-based chicken soup which suits diners who prefer a subtle hint of spiciness while the latter is a tantalisingly hot dish with plenty of prawns, abalone, and mushrooms. It is almost criminal not to indulge in Langkawi’s abundance of fresh seafood, so our first main dish is the steamed snapper fish with lemongrass chilli and lime. The freshness of the fish was further enhanced with a delicious blend of sweet, sour, hot and salty flavours, making it one of the standout dishes of the evening.

We also savour the nuer phad prig sod (RM98), a dish which consists of stir-fried beef with chilli, garlic, and Thai basil leaves. The dish is perfectly cooked as The Pavilion’s expert chefs successfully maintain the flavours of the herbs and spices without compromising the meat’s tenderness. Another noteworthy dish is the phad phak naam man hoi (RM32), which consists of stir-fried seasonal vegetables with oyster sauce. Though the dish lacks of spiciness (a rarity in Thai cuisine), it makes a great complement to the other offerings and a healthy portion of fragrant jasmine rice.Lastly, we ended our gastronomic experience on a sweet note, with generous helpings of delicious mango sticky rice.

The presentation of each dish is also awe-inspiring, ranging from gorgeous ceramic bowls on tiny legs to hot plates covered with cupper lids with detailed carvings. Guests of the Datai Langkawi can also hone their culinary skills and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine as The Pavilion hosts cooking classes every Friday for a minimum of two diners per session. Overall, The Pavilion serves some of the most deliciously authentic Thai cuisine in a beautiful rainforest setting in Langkawi. The restaurant’s peaceful setting and quality offerings are definitely not to be missed by travellers and food enthusiasts alike..
